First Aid and CPR training

INTERMEDIATE FIRST AID RECERTIFICATION WITH LEVEL C CPR & AED (Formerly Standard First Aid Re-Certification)

Western Canada Fire & First Aid’s First aid course is designed for those individuals who live or work in areas where the availability of emergency medical services may be delayed and for those trying to meet Government regulations. The recertification class is intended for those individuals who have kept up with their knowledge and who are regularly practicing or utilizing their skills.

A student who is unsuccessful and whose certification has expired will need to complete Western Canada Fire & First Aid Inc.’s two-day Intermediate First Aid program.

Western Canada Fire & First Aid’s Intermediate First Aid course follows the new CSA standards Z1210-17 and the “Alberta Plus” standards. This course includes level C CPR (Adult, child & Infant)

Course Outline

Principles of Workplace First Aid – Role and Responsibilities of Workplace First Aider, Administration of Medication, Workplace First Aid Kit and Equipment, Principles of Effective Communication, Workplace First Aider Safety and Personal Protection, Occupational Health and Safety

Management of Injured / ill Workers – Scene Management, Primary Survey, Secondary Survey, Ongoing Assessments

Airway Management – Basic Airway Management

Breathing Management  – Respiratory System, Management of Respiratory Emergencies

Circulation Management – Circulatory System, Management of Cardiovascular Emergencies, Nervous System, Management of Shock, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillation (AED)

Injury Management – Internal and External Hemorrhage, Ears, Eyes and Nose Injuries, Burn Management, Management of Musculoskeletal System Injuries

Medical Emergencies – Poison Management, Anaphylaxis, Diabetic Emergencies, Seizures, Stroke, Mental Health Emergencies, Environmental Injury and illness

Transportation Management – Transportation, Multiple Injured/ ill Worker Incidents and Transportation

Spinal and Neurological Emergencies Management – Spinal and Neurological Emergencies

Course Details

Length: Eight hours

Certificate: Valid for three years. Participants may re-certify with the 1 day recertification course any time before their current Intermediate First Aid certificate expires.

Prerequisite: Age requirement is 14 years of age with parents consent.
