Blended Intermediate First Aid

This Blended Intermediate First Aid Training program is an alternative to the 2-day instructor-led program.

It is designed for individuals who prefer to complete the theory online and then complete the in-person practical skills in one day.

This Intermediate First Aid course follows the new CSA standards Z1210-17 and the “Alberta Plus” standards. This course includes level C CPR (Adult, child & Infant).

Course Outline

Principles of Workplace First Aid – Role and Responsibilities of Workplace First Aider, Administration of Medication, Workplace First Aid Kit and Equipment, Principles of Effective Communication, Workplace First Aider Safety and Personal Protection, Occupational Health and Safety

Management of Injured/ill Workers – Scene Management, Primary Survey, Secondary Survey, Ongoing Assessments

Airway Management – Basic Airway Management

Breathing Management – Respiratory System, Management of Respiratory Emergencies

Circulation Management – Circulatory System, Management of Cardiovascular Emergencies, Nervous System, Management of Shock, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillation (AED)

Injury Management – Internal and External Hemorrhage, Ears, Eyes and Nose Injuries, Burn Management, Management of Musculoskeletal System Injuries

Medical Emergencies – Poison Management, Anaphylaxis, Diabetic Emergencies, Seizures, Stroke, Mental Health Emergencies, Environmental Injury and illness

Transportation Management – Transportation, Multiple Injured/ ill Worker Incidents and Transportation

Spinal and Neurological Emergencies Management – Spinal and Neurological Emergencies

Course Details

Online Duration: 4-5 hours

Skills Durations: 7 hours

Certificate: Valid for three years

Prerequisite:

  • Online theory must be completed before the in-person skills assessments
  • Must be at least 14 years of age with consent of parent or guardian

A Blended First Aid Course is ideal for people who prefer the flexibility of completing the theory portion online while gaining hands-on experience in person. You can work through the online learning materials at your own pace before attending an in-person session to complete the practical portion of the course. This format combines the convenience of online learning with the valuable hands-on training needed to build confidence in essential first aid skills. 

The Blended Intermediate First Aid Course typically takes 4–5 hours to complete online, followed by 7 hours of in-person skills training. This format allows you to complete the theory at your own pace before attending the hands-on session. 

Yes. You must complete the online portion of the blended first aid course before attending the in-person session. Your instructor will require you to finish the online training before you can participate in the practical portion of the course. 

The Intermediate First Aid certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of completion. Once your certificate expires, you’ll need to complete the course again to renew your certification.  

The Intermediate First Aid Blended Course costs $125 + GST. This includes both the online theory portion and the in-person practical training.
