FAQs

Yes, Alberta requires workers operating powered mobile equipment to be trained and demonstrate competency. Employers must ensure operators are properly trained, assessed, authorized, and deemed competent before operating any Powered Mobile Equipment.

No prior excavator experience is required to take WCFF’s Excavator Course. However, students with 100+ hours of recent excavator experience may qualify as a skilled operator and only need to complete an abridged, lower-cost version of the course with a few instructor-led exercises to demonstrate their skills.

The course can benefit construction workers, heavy equipment operators, landscapers, excavation contractors, utility workers, and others who operate excavators as part of their job.

WCFF’s Excavator Certificates are valid for 3 Years.

The length of WCFF’s Excavator Certification Course depends on the training format and your experience level. The blended course takes approximately half a day, while the instructor-led course takes a full day. The practical assessment typically takes 20–30 minutes for skilled workers and 2–3 hours for students with limited experience.
